Some thoughts unique to my experience at Honda Center.
...Didn't have the best seats. I was on the side of the stage,
Wofgang's side, staring directly at Alex's drum kit and high up. I
could barely see the screen from this angle, but it gave a unique view
to the concert. Actually better than sitting center and way at the
other end of the building. They stage was actually pretty close.
...Due to the angle, the music lacked some clarity and reverberated a
lot. It was hard to make out what Dave was singing and saying a lot of
the time. Maybe due to this, I didn't have any problems with his
voice. Even when Dance the Night Away started, I thought, "Ok, here we
go", but he sounded great and strong throughout all the concert
...backup vocals were killer. I thought DTNA, which seems to be a weak
song this tour, was done great live. Ed's tones for Hear About It
Later, DTNA, Women In Love, And The Cradle Will Rock were spot on.
...The band as a whole seemed very tight. They timed in at just under
2 hours and it seemed like only 20 minutes. Barely a pause between
songs. To me, I don't like that. I like a little pause or audience
interaction just for a chance to absorb what you just heard.
...As stated above, not as much "Diamond" Dave as at the Staples
Center and Vegas shows. He told a few quick stories, but that's it. I
would have loved to hear a blower rant, the crowd would have ate it
up. They cheered loudly after everything he said.
...Crowd was loud. I think from where I sat, you hear it more than
when you're right in front like I was the last tour. After every song
there was a huge roar, even after the new one songs. Even KATG got a
loud applause. At the end of Jump, everybody was cheering loudly. I
think most people went away happy. Never heard any type of "That
sucked" kind of comments on the way out. Everyone seemed very upbeat.
...there is what looks like a 12x10 big black box that sits right
behind Wolfgang's amps. Dave goes inside of it during Alex's and ed's
solos. I guess he makes costume changes, sucks lemons, takes a shit
and whatever in there.
...the guy who hands Dave his props in front of the stage is some
Japanese guy who looks like part of his entourage from the pics I've
seen.
...Alex's solo seems incredibly short. I guess it's just so the others
can take a quick breather or whatever.
...During Ed's solo, Alex and Wolfie went behind Al's drum riser. Al
sat on some steps right behind it. Him and Wolfie were talking about
something for 30 seconds and then Wolf went off to Ed's side of the
stage and watched him.Al just sat on the steps the whole time looking
at the ground doing nothing. Right before Ed's solo ended, he
literally crawled about 4-5 feet back to his drum throne while Dave
came out of his box.
...The stage is thoroughly wiped with mops and towels after KATG.
Every spot is wiped down, especially Dave's little wood floor. Even
during a song, a guy crawled out and was wiping it down.
....There is virtually no warning at all. As soon as the lights dimmed
they were on stage playing.
...In the front row there were what looked like 3 hot chicks, then a
couple of dudes, then another 4 hot chicks, then like about 6 or 7 ten
year old kids. Thought it was strange, as this was not a Justin Bieber
concert.
...Overall I liked it better than the last tour. They seem less stiff
and more of a band. Wolfgang looked like he belonged there much more
than last time. Every seat in the house looked taken, except of course
those behind the stage.
