best guitarist ever, worst guitarist ever -EVH

there are two bands. one has an amazing guitarist with killer guitar
solos. fast, wild exciting solos, 30 seconds long, 40 seconds long, 50
seconds long, on song after song after song.
the second band has a guitar player who at his very best is good
enough to be mediocre. no killer solos on any track ever, as that
would be 'unmusical' -quote EVH. solos 15 seconds long, 20 seconds
long at the absolute max. never let rip, never take off, never be
exciting. doesn't have any ability to lead into a solo.
now which of these bands do you think is going to be the best based on
just the guitar player alone? the one with the killer guitarist right!
the trouble is, both these two bands, they're both called ...Van
halen. theyr'e the same fucking band!!! roth era VH was bound to be
better. he had twice the guitar player behind him. poor old sammy
hagar only ever had a mediocrity on guitar behind him. he'd have done
a better job on lead himself. if sammy was crapper than dave it's
largely down to having less talented musicians behind him when he was
in VH.

Wrong. Sammy had more accomplished musicians with VH at that time. It
was *his* mediocrity that ruined the band.

Hagar does not deny this. He claims Van Hagar was "the biggest band in
the world" in 1995 and people would grow tired of Dave being back in
the band and demand they play Dreams and When It's Love in concert.
Sammy will put his version of VH against the classic VH any day... and
he will lose every time.

Sammy and you both got a hard dose of reality today.

there's no way on god's earth alex can be described as being a very
talented musician. some of his playing on some of the van hagar tracks
was fucking terrible.
eddie van hagar was never the same guitarist as eddie van roth. he
didn't wan't to be the best guitarist in the world and he accomplished
this because he most certainly wasn't. sluggish riffs played without
flair. blocked solos. there are no, repeat no killer guitar solos from
the whole era sam struggled with this talentless mediocrity. sam could
have wiped the floor with him as a guitarist every night. eddie even
stopped sam from playing guitar on there's only one way to rock as it
was too much of a threat to him. can't play better than sam, don't let
sam play at all.
ever heard a memorable mike anthony bassline? nope, didn't think so.
eddie sobered up and got rid of sam, but by god, if he'd sobered up
enough to listen to his brothers playing he'd have been really fucking
shocked. and if he'd ever sobered up enough to hear his own playing
he'd have gone and taken up tuba like he promised. if sam was mediocre
then he was certainly in the right fucking place for it - 5150
studios, the very home of complacent mediocrity.

Err. this has already been done on the Sam and Dave tour. everyone
said dave would walk it. dave was going to put on a set that consisted
entirely of VH era tunes. Sam said he was going to do some solo
material, some VH and some montrose. people even said 'Sammy, no!
concentrate on VH as it's your only hope of coming close.'
virtually every review gave the night to sam. said dave was washed up

Of course Sam struggled with what Dave led to classic rock songs.
Sammy is nowhere near Dave's equal.

It can be true because nobody gives a shit about either guy outside of
VH. Roth had solo success in the 80s, but his solo career fizzled in
the 90's once bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam became popular. Hagar,
on the other hand, was a one hit wonder whose continued success was
solely due to joining a band that just released a multiplatinum record
with a #1 single; otherwise, his career would have been dead a lot
sooner.

Yup and the proof of this is when Hagar claims that he was "equal" to
Van Halen when he joined them.

So, if he was equal, why wasn't he equal when he got kicked out? Why
hasn't he had even a solo gold record since? Bands like AC/DC were
equal and they still pack arenas.

Sammy equal to VH? Never. Not even close. On the day Sammy joined VH,
Vh had 6 multi-platinum albums and Sammy had only 3 gold records (1
with Montrose).

More delusion from Spam and his fans.

I think that's another thing that gets to Ed. Just like he thought
Mike "adds nothing", he probably cringes every time he hears Sammy
brag about how big he made Halen.

His fans say he's so classy and a great guy, the guy is annoying as
fuck. Like any other insecure asswipe that constantly brags about
themselves.

That could be true. They weren't packing arenas, but they weren't
playing Chickenfoot sized theaters either.
