I like it.
That may surprise some here.

When I first went to the VH web site, Tattoo was playing ... and it sounded
like vintage VH.
So vintage I didn't connect that it was a new song for a minute or two.

That's probably because it's not really a new song, just a revised song from
the Roth outtakes.

But who cares?
They own the songs ... they can do whatever they want with them.

I will buy this new album.

Good job, Van Halen!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way, so I stole one and
asked Him to forgive me.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I found myself humming the tune the
next day after the first listen. It's damn catchy even if the lyrics are
little dodgey, but who cares, Dave isn't known for his deep and meaningful
lyrics anyway.

Then I heard the song played on the radio (and hearing Dave era VH on
Australian commercial radio is rare, with the exception of Jump) and it
sounded awesome..

Despite having reservations about Wolfgang being in the band, I think his
bass playing is more funky and interesting than Mikey's and it more than
compensates for Mikey's backing vocals not being present.

Well, that's my view anyway and I'll be buying the album based on what I've
heard so far.

The first single is supposed to make you want to purchase the album.
"Tattoo" does not do that for me. Not a bad song, but not great either.

Not to mention that the video is full of Roth being Roth....which is what
got him kicked out of the band in the first place, 3-4 times.

Although it's cool that they wrote a song about the midget on "Fantasy
Island".

I think it's really good. The video seems to be a throwback to Jump.
I don't care that the song resembles Down In Flames; that song is over
30 years old and unreleased, so what's the big deal?

Interestingly, I had no idea what "tramp stamp" meant until I heard
this song. Roth is still as witty as ever.

"Tramp stamp" is as old as the hills, but very apt these days and I smirked
the first time I heard "tramp stamp" and "swapmeet sally" in the song.

I think tattoo is a solid tune, nothing mind-blowing... from what I've
heard of the latest samples, mind-blowing will come en masse on this
album.... can't wait.

When I first heard Tattoo 3.5 years ago, I thought it was awful, a limp return to recording for Van Halen.

Now, I like the song just fine. It grew on me and now play it regularly.

I think it's a decent tune. Not their best by any means but a cool tune nonetheless.
