I was reading that Eddie and Geddy had a feud going for some time. I
think it was over something that Geddy said to him - Eddie got mad and
poured a beer over him. The result was VH and Rush being on bad terms
for a while.
Anyone know what caused the feud (what did Geddy say?). Did they ever
kiss and make up?
The two bands were staying at the same hotel in England in the summer of 1980. Rush had rented the entire bar and Van Halen weren't too happy about that as they wanted to celebrate since it was Micheal Anthony's birthday. At some point during the night, Geddy Lee of Rush and Eddie Van Halen were hanging out together in Lee's room. Geddy was playing Eddie some songs from Rush on a tape recorder when Eddie drunk as a skunk poured his beer into it. A year later in 1981 the two bands were playing Las Vegas. Geddy had seen Eddie at a casino and wanted to walk up to shake his hand but a Van Halen bodyguard had tackled Geddy to the ground. The two never met again. Neither bands has played at the same concert but did cross paths with each other in the early 80's.

That's pretty sad. Wish Geddy and EVH had made up.

Rush and Van Halen met in England in 1980. Even though they did not play together they both shared the same hotel. Rush had rented out the entire bar. So when Van Halen came they wanted to celebrate Michael Anthony's birthday but were pissed that Rush rented the bar. Eventually Geddy Lee of Rush and Eddie Van Halen went to a room and Geddy had played Eddie some music to him. Drunk as he was, Eddie poured his beer in his tape recorder. Fast forward to 1981 when both bands are in Las Vegas. At a casino, Geddy wanted to talk to Eddie but not knowing who he was, Van Halen's security guy tackled Geddy to the ground. They never met again. Oddly enough Rush's long time manager Ray Danniels later managed Van Halen from 1994-1999.
