I did it in 2007 and this was my experience of it (things may have
changed since then):

Basically, you and a bunch of other people are brought into a private
bar and grille, and if I remember correct there are free hors
d'oeuvres. However, you do have to pay for drinks.

Then you go on the backstage tours, where you may or may not run into
band members. We were split off into two groups; I was in the first
group. When the second group returned, they said that Dave met them
in the hallway and promised them a "superb show."

During the tour, you see almost the entire backstage, including where
Ed and Wolf put their guitars during the show. The crew actually let
us touch Ed's guitar, which at the time was his signature Fender.

Then you go back to the bar and grille and they do a raffle for Van
Halen merchandise.

It's fun, but it's really expensive. I'm glad I had the experience,
but I wouldn't pay for it again.

thanks for sharing that. i would be supremely bummed to pay that kind
of money and not meet the band. how many people (between the 2 groups)
paid to do this the time you did it? $600-900
for a "backstage tour" without a legit meet n greet is outrageous.

I did the VIP thing for a show during the 2004 tour and we (about 100 people) got to watch from the front of the stage in an otherwise empty arena an 8 song soundcheck with a couple Roth era deep cuts minus Hagar that was basically worth the price on it's own. My seat turned out to be 2nd row isle directly in front of Eddie who was decent (not trashed, not on his game) that night. We also got a "free" VH tour shirt that the printing faded a lot the first time I washed it.

VIPs for this tour and the '07 tour is basically a great floor seat in the first 10 rows or so and depending on the arena, you get free food in a large "hospitality suite" and sometimes drinks. The tour is pretty fast, you zip through a short backstage tour. There's no private soundcheck like in '04, although some groups this tour have heard the band soundchecking from their suite. You can buy swag before the general audience is let in the arena (big whoop).

You're basically just paying an inflated price for a great ticket, something you can do for far cheaper by just buying the Platinum seats off Ticketmaster or even gambling and hoping to grab a prime ticket the last couple days before the show when TM sells off the remaining unsold VIP/Platinum tickets at standard price.
