very telling that the latest vh album doesn't feature any new music at
all. it really is just old tracks they wrote together in 75-77. i read
a while back a quote from eddie himself saying he'd got loads of new
music if dave was interested in recording it. i knew then dave didn't
want to touch eddie's new stuff.
the 2 tracks they laid down for the greaterst hits package in the 90's
didn't play like van halen, they played like van hagar but with roth
on vocals - not good. sluggish guitar riffs, blocked solos, leaden
drumming. everything that made van hagar so poor except for the poodle
himself singing about love.
roth wouldn't touch anything eddie has written in the last decade. he
obviously realised that he was going to end up making vab halen 3 part
2 so insisted on only rerecording old tracks from when eddie still had
a feel and an ear for music.

Chinatown is brand new, as is The Trouble With Never. Of the previews
I've heard, I liked these two the best.

What difference does it make anyway? If the song is good, then why
does it matter when it was written?

Killer tunes. Old/New... doesn't matter. Ed's playing is epic once
again. The boys are back in town.
